The latest buzz about Edcamp Hagerstown

What will we discussing?

Although the idea of an edcamp is that the agenda and sessions are determined the day of the event, we have been hearing from people that they would like to know what topics will be discussed.  To help potential attendees better understand what the day will be like, we talked to the members of the planning committee to get some idea of the topics that they are interested in discussing.  Here is what they had to share:

  • BYOD / Managing Device networks
  • IPad use – productivity vs consumption
  • Best Apps for students, for teachers
  • Flipping the classroom
  • Backward Mapping
  • Common Core
  • Community/Parent relations
  • Twitter for Newbies

Remember, these are not set in stone, but if you share an interest in any of these topics, be sure to join us for some great discussion.

Our venue

We recently had the opportunity to take a tour of our venue, Antietam Academy.  What a beautiful school!  We are very excited to have them host our edcamp!

Thank you GameStar Mechanic!

I used GameStar Mechanic last year with my fourth graders and they absolutely loved it!  What a great way to develop problem solving skills and critical thinking.  Students learn the basics of video game design through a fun and exciting tutorial.  The service allows students to master the art of gaming, but can easily be applied to content that is being addressed in the classroom.  What better way to demonstrate the understanding of a significant event in history than to create a video game representing it!

Gamestar Mechanic has offer to sponsor Edcamp Hagerstown by providing 4 Premium Teacher licenses and one opportunity for a student Online Learning program registration.

We will be picking the lucky winners at the end of Edcamp Hagerstown, so make sure you are there until the end!

Thank you Flocabulary!

Flocabulary has provided a Site Membership for one lucky Edcamp Hagerstown participant!  We will pick the winner at the end of the event.

Also, Flocabulary has provided an extended 30 day free trial to all attendees of Edcamp Hagerstown!

If you haven’t heard it yet, you need to check out the Edcamp Rap provided by Flocabulary!

Thanks Flocabulary!

Thank you ThingLink!

We would like to thank ThingLink for offering free upgrades to their Plus accounts to all of the Edcamp Hagerstown participants.

Check out our sponsors page for more info about ThingLink.

What is an edcamp?

The latest phenomenon going around in professional development are Edcamps.  Edcamps, or un-conferences, are designed for anyone involved in K-12 education, and are completely participant driven.  There is a set time and place, but no predetermined agenda.  When participants arrive in the morning, they come together and determine the breakout sessions and discussions that will take place during the day.

If you have a topic that you want to discuss with other innovative educators, Edcamp is for you.

If you want to share amazing lessons that you and you students have completed, Edcamp is for you.

If you simply want to connect with like-minded educators, Edcamp is for you.

Edcamp Planning Meeting

We are moving along in the planning process for Hagerstown’s first Edcamp!

The planning team will be meeting on Monday, July 2nd to discuss dates and venues for the event.  We would love to have input from the wider community.
